7 Waterfall trekking trails in Goa you should check out

Known for its pristine beaches and scenic landscapes, Goa is a popular destination among Indian and foreign tourists all round the year. Goa is never a ghost place – it is always buzzing with some sort of travellers. The rugged and scenic destinations along the Goa-Karnataka border makes for a fun and exciting affair. These trekking trails lead to some of the stunning vistas and offers spectacular views. The splendid waterfall is the cherry on the cake during most of the treks. After a hard morning walking the clear water originating from natural springs in the hills is enough to make your day. Here are some spectacular waterfall trekking trails that shouldn’t be missed while in Goa:

1. Dudhsagar Waterfall Trek, Goa

The fifth tallest waterfall in India offers a spectacular trek. Clear as milk, flowing through the dense forests of the Western Ghats to finally fall 310 meters down, Dudhsagar is the most popular waterfall in Goa. There are two interesting trekking routes that could help you trek. The first one includes, trekking from Kulem Junction to the Dudhsagar falls. If you would like to be more adventuruous try taking the complicated Jungle route, with the help of a professional guide. It’s fun to choose your own way and increase your experience in this trek.

2. Nethravali Waterfall Trek, Goa

The Nethravali waterfalls are inside the Madei Wildlife Sanctuary. The trek is an easy one, and there are multiple trails one can chose depending on the difficulty level you can withstand. The region is a protected area and you can spot some beautiful flora and fauna along the trail. Once you reach the fall, you can climb to the peak and soak in the wonderful view around.

3. Pali Waterfall Trek, Goa

Pali waterfall trek is a beautiful and offbeat trail – a paradise for trekkers and hikers. The terrain and distance are challenging, but fun. It is a hidden gem in Valpoi. To reach the waterfalls, you have to cross paths with slippery rocks, thorns and bushes, small streams and muddy roads. The magnificent falls, the fresh air and the misty spray of the water will restore your tired spirits and as you soak in the beauty of your surroundings, you are bound to be soothed and restored.

4. Sada Waterfall Trek, Goa

Sada Waterfalls require trekking through the picturesque Chorla Ghats on the Goa-Karnataka border. A trek to some of the highest peaks in Goa can offer you the chance to really discover the natural beauty of the place. While some of these treks can be daunting, a majority of them are moderately challenging for adventure enthusiasts. You need to trek eight kilometres to reach the base of the fall. The closest place is a little village in Sattari taluka of North Goa. The trek isn’t a difficult one and the magnificent fall cascading through two adjacent hills makes the adventurous trek worth it!

5.Kuskem Waterfall Trek, Goa

Kuksem is probably the best known waterfalls in the Cotigao Wildlife Santuary. Distance-wise, the trek is a little difficult – a 12 km walk one-way, but the animals and trees make it worthwhile. On your route, you will notice animals like the flying squirrel and reptiles like the Malabar pit viper. The dense forest contains trees of all kinds with some as tall as 90 feet. There are a few natural trails ranging from about 500 meters to 5 km throughout the sanctuary. Its diverse flaura and fauna and breathtaking views make Cotigao worth visiting at least once.

6. Tambdi Surla Waterfall Trek, Goa

This gorgeous waterfall is 90 minutes walking distance from the famous 13th century Tambdi Surla Temple (also known as Mahadev Temple). Tambdi Surla Falls nestles in leafy forests and the path leading to the waterfall is as enchanting as the fall itself. The trail is straightforward but it does get progressively tougher as you will have to negotiate dense undergrowth and a fairly steep ascent. Once you trek through Bhagwan Mahavir Sanctuary to this magical spot where nature is at its best, you will feel that your trek has been worth all the effort.

7. Hivrem Waterfall Trek, Goa

Hivrem is a picturesque part of Goa that is little known and less explored. The Hivrem-Valpoi trek is a moderately difficult trek with a steep uphill climb making it very satisfying for the avid trekker. There are three waterfalls in close proximity to each other and a more experienced trekker can cover all three in a day. The trek is about 7-8 km through dense tropical vegetation. Trekkers need to cross a number of pretty rivulets before taking in the breathtaking view from the top of the hill. The gushing waterfall emerging from under dense vegetation makes for a truly majestic sight.
