Top 5 things to do in Denpasar

Imagine visiting a place you never even heard about and having your mind blown with one look. For many visitors, that’s exactly what happens at Denpasar.

Denpasar may not be as popular as other cities in Indonesia, but don’t let that fool you. This is a small but beautiful upcoming tourist destination that is worth a visit.
You can definitely plan a few hours of a side trip here while travelling to Kuta or Bali. You might wish to revisit it someday again, to take a break and relax.

Here are some of the things you can do at Denpasar if it’s on your itinerary list.

5. Begin a shopping spree

Take a stroll along the Badung and Kumbasari Traditional Market which is located right at Gajah Mada Street. Filled with a variety of different stalls, you can choose among homeware, clothing and ornamental baskets. Right across the street is the Kumbasari Market which sells paintings, wood carvings, silks and batik paintings – perfect souvenir gift options that stay true to the Balinese culture.

3. Check out Kereneng & Asoka Night Market

Locally known as ‘Pasar Kereneng’, this is where you will find Denpasar’s thriving night market scene. Choose from food hawkers offering delicious local Indonesian cuisine, souvenir stalls selling batik cloths and many more. Be wary though as there are a lot of scams that go around here, especially currency exchange scams.

2. Sightsee Denpasar

As expected of a city rich in culture, Denpasar is home to a number of beautiful temples and monuments – all of which are definitely worth a visit if you are interested in learning more about the city’s soul.

However, the monument that you simply cannot afford to miss is the Bajra Sandhi Monument which stands in the centre of the Lapangan Niti Mandala Renon The monument is super fun to look at on its own. But its also surrounded by stunning greenery and clean parks – a perfect site for a family photo shoot.

1. Photoshoot at Denpasar

What trip would be complete without a professional photoshoot? Especially if you have kids who will probably not remember much of the trip as they grow up. Be sure to select a great location that stands out from the rest of Bali. A beach photoshoot is a good start but one at a historic site is even better.
