What is IFFI?
For the unenlightened. The International Film Festival of India (IFFI), founded in 1952, is one of the most significant film festivals on the continent. A breeding ground for the cinemas of the world to project the excellence of the film art.
This year the film industry takes over the streets of Panjim once again, as celebrities and stargazers roll into town for the 48th International Film Festival. Famous familiar faces will flood the streets for 9 days, from November 20th to 28th, 2017.

Opening FIlm : Beyond the Clouds (Iran)
Beyond The Clouds is a story of a brother and sister like Children of Heaven, with the difference being that the siblings are grown-ups and tackle greater conflicts against the backdrop of the bustling city of Mumbai. The films driving force is that human emotions have no barriers of language and geography
The International Competition
For IFFI 2017, 15 Films from all over the globe will be competing for the prestigious Golden and Silver Peacocks. This years selection of nominees include films from China, Slovakia, Japan, France, Taiwan, Qatar, India, Iran, South Korea, Malaysia and Mexico.
BRICS Films Festival Award
To celebrate the successful trade and cooperation alliance of the BRICS members, the second BRICS Film Festival was held in Chengdu, China in the month of June. The BRICS nations consisting of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa screened a total of 30 films. At this year’s IFFI, Seven winning films out of the thirty will be screened at different venues.
Closing Film : Thinking of Him (Argentina)
Thinking of Him is Argentinian director Pablo Cesar’s exploration of a chapter in the life of Rabindranath Tagore. The story of the Indian poet gives an insight into the intellectual and spiritual notions on which Tagore’s revolutionary school in India was founded.
Who’s Attending
Shah Rukh Khan
IFFI 2017 will the inaugurated by the Bollywood superstar himself. Shah Rukh Khan will be making the official welcome address to all the delegates from across the globe as IFFI 2017 flags off in the beach state of Goa.
Speaking about it, Shah Rukh Khan also inaugurated the 38th IFFI back in 2007.
Amitabh Bachchan
Does anyone really need an intro on the legend himself? Probably not. Has anyone else revolutionised Indian cinema and inspired a whole new generation of actors as we know it? Possibly, but none still alive today. At IFFI 2017 Big B will be felicitated with the Indian Film Personality of the Year Award.
This is the first time that a presenter of this award is being felicitated with the same award. In IFFI 2014, Bachchan himself presented the same award to much revered actor from South India, Rajinikanth.
Karan Johar
Karan Johar made his directorial debut at age 25 with Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. The film remains a landmark in Indian cinema for the appreciation it received, both critically and commercially, in India as well as the world. Following this, over the last 15 years, he has directed and written critically and commercially acclaimed blockbusters like Kabhie Khushi Kabhi Gham and My Name is Khan
His talk show Koffee with Karan has the distinction of being the most watched English talk show on Indian television.
Ekta Kapoor
Ekta Kapoor is an Indian TV producer credited with revamping India’s television landscape. She pioneered an entire genre of television content, heralding India’s satellite television boom.
Under her creative guidance, many shows have won almost every major TV award.
